Day 14 Australia - Parachilna to Wilpena Pound

Saturday 7th March, 2015 - Parachilna to Wilpena Pound

Italics are tour description.

We have a lovely breakfast with REAL coffee at the Pioneer Hotel. I have eggs florentine and John had a bacon and egg sandwich.  We look at the map trying to decide if we should backtrack but Jane says no, do the drive to Blinman.
We say our good-byes to Jane and Lochy.

On the road to Blinman.
Blinman is a town deep in the Flinders Ranges, in the mid north of South Australia. It is very small but has the claim of being the highest surveyed town in South Australia.

The road is dirt and we pretty well have it to ourselves.

Mountain goats!

Back on the road to Wipena Pound.

Hey you!!! Good on ya, mate! I'm not sure who is more startled.

We're ahead of schedule so we decide to drive to Hawker as we won't have time to stop in the morning.

Approx 141 km / 1.75 hours
Drive south to Wilpena Pound in Flinders Ranges National Park.

Accommodation:
Wilpena Pound Resort
Wilpena Road via Hawker,
Wilpena SA 5434

Wilpena Pound Resort is built on the banks of Wilpena Creek just outside an entrance to Wilpena
Pound. In this natural bush setting, native flora and fauna abound. With just 60 rooms, the resort
blends well into the landscape and provides comfortable accommodation for exploring the
Flinders Ranges.

The resort is laid out like an old motel. Basic rooms. You have to pay for your national park entrance when you check in.

We took a walk and it was wonderful especially the smell! Kangaroo hiding from us.

The Restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner with a variety of dining options on offer. Choose from a light continental to a hearty country breakfast.

The restaurant is like a cafeteria at a Butlin's Holiday Park. All bright lights, you place your order at the counter, get your own cutlery and wait, wait, wait. Food is basic.

Poddy Dodger’s Bar is a popular gathering place for visitors to enjoy a refreshment and share tales of the day’s activities.

The highlight was meeting Irene and Cathy, staying next to us. We had a great laugh with them.
