Carnaval and More

February 2017 - Mazatlan Mexico

These photos were taken last week.

This week we took a walk to get photos of the remaining Carnaval statues. But, of course, I have like to take other photos along the way.

The malecon is 12 miles in length along the ocean. Today we will do about 6 miles.

As i mentioned in the previous post this year's theme is Alebrijes and Dragons. An alebrije is a colourful Mexican folk art sculpture depicting a mythical being made up of parts real and imaginary animals such as cat or dog eyes, serpent bodies and pretty much whatever you can dream up.

To give you an idea of the size.

This is aptly named Big Feet.

A statue of a pulmonia, it is a taxi that looks like a souped-up golf cart. Hundreds of these roam the streets.

Beach, because I am easily distracted.

Great wide sidewalks.

Stuck atop an apartment building. Reminds me of Shanghai roof top living.

More beach palapa restaurants.

This hole is at least 6 feet deep, the guy was still digging but ducked his head when he saw the cameras.

The Fishermen's statue has been cleaned up and re-tiled. This is a landmark that is used as a meeting place or destination.

Across the street is a park for the kids. The pink balls empty when they get full of water. A great place to cool off.

A new addition this year.

Crossing back to the Malecon and peeking into a restaurant.

Gym behind the restaurant.

Approaching where the fishermen come in, mid afternoon so it is quiet now.

John obliged me by taking a picture of this wall, I liked the pretty flowers against the graffitied wall.

Just a nice house...

Billboard on the right is for the restaurant in El Quelite.

I'll bet this will look great lit up!

You must be thirsty by now!

Busy selling to the people on the bus.

I wonder how easy it is to walk up these stairs???

Putting up more lights for Carnaval.

Time to head back into town. Some shots along the way to the central market to get the bus.

You have to keep your eyes peeled when walking, this is one of the pitfalls.

Back at Plazuela Machado, I get a better shot of the bunny rabbit on steroids.

We stop in a favourite craft shop.

Shoe shine?

Aboard the bus. The wheel is wrapped in green duct tape. As well he has a holy picture taped to the dash.

  5. Hi Jackie, what wonderful carnival statues. It's carnival time here at the moment, but we have nothing quite like the statues in your photos. They are huge and so colourful too. I love the photo of the pelicans on the side of the fishing boat, they know which side their bread is buttered!

Thank you for linking up with the #MMBC.

  6. The whimsical, colourful sculptures are so lovely. Great addition to the streetscape. And those stairs are like a rather daunting optical illusion.
